Dating from 1270 this is the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and in more recent times the home of the Astor family. In the early 1900’s William Waldorf Astor undertook a major restoration including luxurious panelling and carving and turned it into a very warm and welcoming house.

Between 1904 and 1908 the Astor family created acres of beautiful gardens which are lovingly tended today by a team of gardeners bring colour and life all year round. Stroll through formal gardens including the majestic Italian Garden which houses spectacular statuary and sculpture dating from Roman times. Enjoy the newly created Sunday Walk Garden, the Herbaceous Border, the Tudor Gardens and the magnificent Rose Garden. You can also lose yourself in the Yew Maze, cool down in the splashing Water Maze or amble by the lake.

There is a superb collection of painting and objets d’art to be admired in the castle as well as some rare personal prayer books signed by Anne Boleyn and costumed figures of all six wives of HenryVIII. Also to be enjoyed is an exhibition of model houses depicting life through the ages.
